  • 1.4L turbo engine mated to a 6-speed transmission (manual or available automatic)
  • On-demand all-wheel-drive system to tackle Canada's diverse weather and rugged terrain

By General Motors - The all-new Chevrolet Trax celebrates its world premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, representing Chevrolet's first entry to the fast-growing small SUV segment.  Trax will round out Chevrolet's offering of stylish crossovers and SUVs in Canadian Chevy showrooms alongside the popular Orlando, Equinox and Traverse.

"Building on Chevrolet's long tradition of offering dependable and capable SUVs and crossovers, Trax delivers modern styling, versatility and efficiency, while offering car-like handling and all-wheel drive," said Marc Comeau, vice-president of sales, service and marketing for Chevrolet in Canada.  "Trax will be a popular choice with Canadians looking for the styling, functionality and cargo space expected of a much larger vehicle, but in a smaller sporty package."

Athletic stance, powerful body linesMeasuring 4,248 mm in length, 1,776 mm in width and 1,674 mm in height, Chevrolet's new small SUV will energize the segment with its inspired styling, efficient yet powerful powertrain and sporty, responsive ride characteristics.

From all angles, Trax conveys athletic agility and movement.  With the Chevy bowtie spearating the upper from the lower port of its prominent front grille, the small SUV can immediately be identified as a member of the Chevrolet family.  The subtle centreline crease on the hood surface and the detailed halogen headlamps add to the vehicle's dynamic appearance.

While the Trax exterior is characterized by powerful body lines and a planted stance, engineers and designers have made sure the SUV is also aerodynamically refined.  Its rearward swept roofline, a fascia-mounted air dam and an integrated roof spoiler contribute to the vehicle's aerodynamic efficiency.  Wheel offerings are 16 or 18-inches in size.

Fuel-efficient 1.4L turbocharged engine and available on-demand AWD system
With sufficient space to accommodate five persons in a comfortable high seating position, Trax will deliver car-like handling while also enabling true off-road capability when needed.

In Canda, Trax features a 1.4L turbocharged engine producing 138hp (103 kW) and 148 lb.ft. of torque.  A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on the LS model, and the LT and LTZ models receive a 6-speed automatic transmission.

An AWD system, available on LT and LTZ models, automatically adapts to road conditions and significantly improves traction on slippery or graveled roads.

Rock-solid safety
An array of passive and active safety systems ensures that unexpected developments result in as little damage to the car's occupants as possible.  Apart from a unibody structure consisting of high-strength steels, Trax will boast six standard airbags, a releasable pedal assembly and three-point seatbelts on all seats.

Trax comes loaded with standard safety features, including: StabiliTrak (Electronic Stability Control) including hill start assist (HSA), panic brake assist, traction control (TC), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution and OnStar.

Unique storage flexibility and connectivity
Inside, Trax delivers clean sophistication that is complemented by useful convenience features such as a cluster combining digital readouts with analog displays.  Chevrolet ice blue backlighting is incorporated on control interfaces as well as the instrument cluster.

Storage amenities in the new Trax are plentiful.  They include various compartments above and on both sides of the centre stack as well as an available under-seat storage tray.  The Trax cargo area can accommodate a maximum of 1370L (rear seats down); further space can be made available under the cargo floor.

In addition to a 60/40 split rear seat, Trax boasts a front passenger seat that can be folded flat, offering additional flexibility for longer items.  Up to a total of eight seating combinations and configurations are possible.

2LT and LTZ trim levels will feature Chevrolet MyLink as standard.  Chevrolet MyLink is an infotainment system that aggregates content from smartphones onto the seven-inch, high resolution, full-colour touchscreen display.  A dedicated navigation app called Bringo (by Engis) will become available early next year.  It will project the route map from the smartphone onto the system's touch-screen.

With Chevrolet MyLink, phone calls can be conveniently placed by selecting a name from a stored directory and then touching the call function.  The system provides easy access to personal playlists, photo galleries, phone books, other stored media and data.  As long as the car remains stationary, occupants may also view videos or personalized slide shows.  A rearview camera is part of the MyLink infotainment package and provides assistance during parking maneuvers.

Intuitive navigation with smartphone app
The Bringo navigation app (by Engis) will be offered through online app stores, for download onto compatible smartphones (both IOS and Android).  Its use is as straightforward as that of any integrated navigation system.  Once the driver has connected the smarthphone to Chevrolet MyLink and tapped the navigation icon, the main menu will appear on the seven-inch full color touchscreen.  It offers a selection of easy-to-navigate submenus.

The smartphone app features Lane guidance which will help drivers by displaying the correct lane(s) to stay in.  Live traffic can provide real-time traffic information, such as detailed incident reports and the ability to reroute to avoid traffic jams.  The traffic service requires an active network connection through the smartphone.

An eco icon at the bottom of the Bringo main menu will enable drivers to review their driving efficiency.  An average and minimum eco-driving efficiency rating can be calculated for the past day, week or month.
