China, Russia Among 60 Countries to Embrace New Compact

By General Motors Corporation - Even before the first models reach U.S. dealers, the Chevrolet Cruze is among the fastest-growing nameplates in the world with sales rising an average of 18 percent per month.

Internationally, customers have purchased 140,000 Cruze in the first six months of 2010 and a total of 270,000 since Cruze launched in the spring of 2009 in Europe, followed by other major markets, such as China in summer of 2009.

Cruze is currently available in more than 60 countries, with China, Russia, Mexico, India and Spain as the top five sales markets. Including Holden and Daewoo versions sold in Australia and South Korea, total sales exceed 340,000 vehicles across five continents.

Cruze will begin arriving at U.S. dealerships in September. With U.S. models produced in Lordstown, Ohio, Cruze will be the only compact car built in the U.S. for the 2011 model year. Production at the Lordstown complex will begin with three shifts, assembling Cruze models around the clock to meet expected customer demand.

"Customers around the world have already made Cruze an international success, setting the stage for it here in the U.S.," said Margaret Brooks, director of marketing for Chevrolet small cars. "For U.S. customers, Cruze will be priced to compete with compact cars while offering more interior room, more miles per gallon in the Eco model, and more standard safety features."

In the U.S., Cruze models will start at $16,995 for the LS model, equipped with the most standard safety features in its segment, including 10 air bags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover sensing, traction control and anti-lock brakes.

The Cruze Eco model starts at $18,895, featuring a standard 1.4L Ecotec turbo and six-speed manual transmission. With ultra low-rolling resistance tires, and an enhanced aerodynamic-performance package, Cruze Eco is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway.

The top of the line Cruze LTZ model starts at $22,695 and features a standard six-way power driver seat, leather seating surfaces, cruise control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB port with audio interface, ultrasonic rear-parking assist, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

BECOMING A CORVETTE OWNER CAN BE AN UNMATCHED EXPERIENCE

By General Motors - With the introduction of the Corvette Engine Build Experience, no other performance car affords owners as many opportunities to be personally involved with their car as the Corvette. Only Corvette owners can watch their car travel down the assembly line, take delivery at the National Corvette Museum, and learn what their Corvette is capable of on the track.

"There are very few car enthusiasts in the world who can say their car is capable of 205 miles an hour," said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. "There are even fewer who can say they helped build their own engine, watched their car be built from the ground up, and took delivery across the street from the factory."

ZR1 Driving School: Every customer who orders a ZR1 receives a complimentary attendance at one of two official Corvette ZR1 Driving Schools; Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada, or Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, Arizona.

Each school offers a two-day course designed to teach new owners how to fully enjoy the performance of the ZR1 in a safe, closed-course environment. Heel/toe shifting, threshold braking, and cornering are only some of the dynamic driving skills ZR1 owners will learn at the schools.

The Corvette ZR1 driving schools are also open to the public, with prices starting at $2,995.

Museum Delivery: Available as a dealer option, the Museum Delivery program allows customers to take delivery of their Corvette at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Museum schedulers notify the customer when their car will be completed and help the customer pick their delivery date. On arrival, customers receive a private tour of the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant, home of the Corvette, and the National Corvette Museum. The owner then takes delivery of their new Corvette from the museum showroom, where their own car is on display. The delivery process includes a personalized demonstration of their Corvette's features, broadcast around the world via live webcam 24 hours a day.

The Museum Delivery option is $490.

Buyers Tour: The Corvette Buyers Tour is a unique opportunity for customers to watch their Corvette being built at the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant. The museum uses the customer's order number to track the status of their Corvette, and then contacts the customer to let them know the scheduled build date of their car. The customer and one guest are then treated to a guided tour of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, often following their actual Corvette through the build process from the start of body assembly to the end of the line. This tour includes the chance to witness areas of the plat not included on the general Plant tour.

The Corvette Buyers Tour is $400 and is coordinated through the National Corvette Museum.

Corvette Photo Album: Whether they take delivery of their Corvette at the National Corvette Museum, take the buyers tour or simply take delivery of their car at the dealership, all Corvette customers have the opportunity to purchase a photo album that documents the build of their car. The leather-bound album includes more than 20 pages of texst and photos devoted to capturing the customer's Corvette build process, as well as a letter of authenticity from the National Corvette Museum.

The Corvette photo album is $500 and is coordinated through the National Corvette Museum.

CHEVROLET STANDS BEHIND VOLT WITH STANDARD EIGHT-YEAR, 160,000 KM BATTERY WARRANTY IN CANADA

Volt's long-life battery warranty most comprehensive of any electric vehicle ... All 161 battery components validated to withstand extreme temperatures, terrain and driving patterns ... GM's Brownstown Township, Michigan battery plant will begin regular production in August.

By General Motors, Brownstown Township, Michigan - The Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range will provide Canadian customers with an unprecedented, standard, eight-year/160,000 kilometre warranty on its advanced, lithium-ion battery. It is the automotive industry's longest, most comprehensive battery warranty for an electric vehicle, and is transferable at no cost to other vehicle owners.

"The Chevrolet Volt's batteries have exceeded our performance targets and are ready to hit the road," said Micky Bly, GM executive director, global electrical systems. "Our customers are making a commitment to technology that will help reduce our dependence on petroleum. In turn, we are making a commitment to our customers to deliver the highest standards for value, safety, quality, performance and reliability for an unprecedented eight years/160,000 kilometres."

The Volt's comprehensive battery warranty covers all 161 battery components, 95 percent of which are designed and engineered by GM, in addition to the thermal management system, charging system and electric drive components.

The Volt is the only electric vehicle that can operate under a full range of climates and driving conditions without limitations or concern about being stranded by a depleted battery. It has a range of over 500 kilometres and is powered with electricity at all times. For up to the first 64 kilometres, the Volt is powered solely by electricity stored in its 16-kWh lithium-ion battery, using no fuel and producing no emissions. When the Volt's lithium-ion battery runs low, an engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 480 kilometres on a full tank of fuel. Volt Freedom Drive.

The Volt's advanced, lithium-ion battery is designed to deliver the value, safety, quality, performance, durability and reliability Chevrolet customers expect. Key battery features included:

Thermal management for durability and reliability: The Volt is the only mass-market electric vehicle with a battery that can be warmed or cooled. The battery is designed to provide reliable operation, when plugged in, at temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius and as high as +50 degrees Celsius. In cold weather, the battery will be preheated during charging to provide full ppower capability. In hot weather - the most challenging environment for a battery - the Volt's battery can be chilled during charging. The Volt's liquid thermal management system can also be powered during driving by the battery or engine/generator.

Diagnostics for safety and performance: The Volt's battery management system continuously monitors the battery real-time for optimum operations. More than 500 diagnostics run at 10 times per second, keeping track of the Volt's battery pack; 85 percent of the diagnostics ensure the battery pack is operating safely, while the remaining 15 percent keep track of battery performance and life.

Cell design and chemistry for performance and efficiency: GM's selection of a prismatic cell design and LG Chem's manganese spinel lithium-ion chemistry is designed to provide long life and high power output, with a properly maintained temperature. This enables better vehicle acceleration and increased regenerative braking capability for improved vehicle efficiency.

Energy management for durability: Fully charging or fully depleting a battery shortens its life. The Volt's energy management system never fully charges or depletes the battery. The Volt's battery has top and bottom "buffer zones" to help ensure long life.

Testing for durability, reliability, safety and performance: GM engineers have completed more than 1.6 million kilometers and 4 million hours of validation testing of Volt battery packs since 2007, as well as each pack's nine modules and 288 cells. The development, validation and test teams have met thousands of specifications and validated each of the Volt battery's components. Tests include short circuit, corrosion, dust, impact, water submersion, crush and penetration, and extreme temperature swings combined with aggressive drive cycles, also known as "Shake, Bake and Roll."

Ready for production: GM's Brownstown Township plant, which began building prototype batteries in January, soon will begin regular battery production. "We're moving fast to deliver for the customer and ensure the Volt launch stays on track," said Nancy Laubenthal, plant manager of the Brownstown Battery Plant. "Last August we announced the investment in the Brownstown facility and in January built our first completed battery pack. Now we are finishing pre-production batteries and soon we will begin building production units."

GM NETS FIVE OF EDMUNDS.COM'S TOP 10 LAUNCH AWARDS

General Motors, Detroit - Led by the Chevrolet Camaro, General Motors had five of the 10 most-successful all-new or totally redesigned vehicle launches in 2009, based on an analysis by Edmunds.com leading to the automotive information firm's first Launch Breakthrough Award.

The Camaro has outsold its primary competitor for 11 of the last 13 months and continues to sell with practically no incentives.

"With its highly anticipated launch, the Camaro was the clear winner, commanding premium prices, spending little time on the dealership lots and becoming one of the bestselling vehicles in its segment," Edmunds.com senior analyst Jessica Cadlwell said.

The Chevrolet Equinox had the No. 3 launch breakthrough; the Cadillac SRX was No. 5; Buick LaCrosse was No. 7 and GMC Terrain was No. 10. The study included 54 eligible vehicles, each all new or totally redesigned in calendar year 2009 and launched before December 1, 2009. Qualifying vehicles had at least 100 sales per month.

The Chevrolet Equinox has maintained one of the industry's lowest inventories, and three separate actions have been announced to increase Equinox capacity since the start of production last year. About half of Equinox sales come from non-GM trade-ins.

The Cadillac SRX, meanwhile, cemented a top-five launch breakthrough finish, complementing its sales increases. SRX has led its segment in the past year in increases for both sales and projected resale value. June was the fifth-best sales month ever for SRX and second-best retail sales month on record.

Critically acclaimed, the Buick LaCrosse finished seventh among the launch breakthrough vehicles and the GMC Terrain finished tenth.

The other top vehicle launches of the year were the Porsche Panamera (2); Ford Fusion Hybrid (4); Lexus RX 350 (6); Toyota Prius (8) and Mercury Milan Hybrid (9).

"According to our analysis, seven of the top ten launches of the year were domestic vehicles, and many of those new cars are still selling at an impressive rate," said Edmunds.com senior analyst Ray Zhou.

The Edmunds.com Launch Breakthrough Award is based on an analysis of 18 factors associated with a launch of a new vehicle, including pricing, sales, market share, dealer profit margins, incentives, consumer consideration, consumer ratings, inventory levels and residual values for all eligible vehicles.
