GM MARKS BUILDING 1.5 MILLION 6.6L DURAMAX ENGINES

GM is celebrating a milestone today: the
production of the 1.5 million Duramax
diesel engine at its DMAX facility.

By Stephen Elmer, Autoguide.com - The Duramax breathes life into the Chevy Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo vans.  It puts out 397 hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm.  To achieve these numbers, the motor uses a four-valve high pressure common rail direct injection system.

The engine is a result of a joint venture between General Motors and Isuzu Motors Ltd.  "This is a significant achievement for our facility and our employees here at DMAX," said DMAX CEO Maho Mitsuya.  "We're committed to building quality into every engine -- whether it's our first or our 1,500,000."
