By The New York Times - In Sunday's Automobiles section, Ezra Dyer reviews the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, a throwback piece of American muscle capable of romping through the quarter-mile in under 12 seconds.
Gaudy horsepower levels and straight-line speed, however, do not tell the story of the ZL1, a tale that is filled with surprising levels of nuance, as Mr. Dyer writes:
A day of driving during the press introduction at Virginia International Raceway here -- a fast, challenging road course near the North Carolina border -- revealed a Camaro that evokes blue-ribbon sport coupes like the BMW M3. Except that the ZL1 surely gets around V.I.R. much quicker.
Caveats enter the narrative only when it comes to price:
Is $54,995 too much for a Camaro? (Don't forget to add the $1,300 guzzler tax for the manual transmission model or $2,600 for the automatic.) That's a question only you and your wallet can answer. But I will say that for your money, nothing else with a back seat can approach the ZL1's thundering performance.
